Since 2015, the Generationencafé Vollpension has been welcoming more than 200,000 guests from all over the world every year at its two locations in Vienna. The social enterprise employs a total of 80 people, more than half of whom are over sixty years old, live alone and/or are affected by old-age poverty. The Vollpension Backademie emerged from several innovation workshops at the beginning of the Corona pandemic in March 2020, when the doors of the gastronomy had to remain closed. In addition to crowdfunding, this digital extension helped the Austrian company through the crisis. In October, after several months of development, the platform went online with more than twelve hours of on-demand video courses, as well as an extensive range of live baking courses. “More than 500 participants have attended our more than 150 course dates, including an increasing number of companies. But also private groups book our courses to meet with their loved ones who do not live in the immediate area and bake with grandma in a relaxed atmosphere” says Julia Krenmayr, Managing Director of Vollpension. The Vollpension Backademie is also part of the Google Future Workshop.
